Sanremo 2026, monthly listeners on Spotify plummet (-30.4%)
At the end of the year, the figure on the main streaming platform was 59.2 mln. Last year it was 85.1 mln. Here is who grows the most among the Big
That the 2026 Sanremo would be the weakest discography in recent years was clear as early as the cast announcement. The reckoning, however, as is well known, is done at the end. So here they are: the 33 Big performers of the 30 songs competing in the Rai that ended on Saturday 28 February totalled on Spotify, the leading music streaming platform, 59.2 million monthly listeners. Compared to the figure recorded at the announcement, the leap forward was 101.3 per cent. But the comparison with previous editions remains eloquent.
Last year, for example, the 30 artists in the competition totalled 85.1 million monthly listeners. In 2024 the figure was even 87.4 million. This year's performance is better than those of 2023 (56.4 million) and 2022 (51.3 million), of course, but let us not forget that we are talking about two editions of respective 28 and 25 Bigs, as opposed to the current 30.
The CEO of Fimi, Enzo Mazza, emphasised during the days of the Festival: 'What happens at Sanremo is part of a worldwide trend. Music consumers are broadening their curiosity, which is no longer confined to new releases but ranges across the huge catalogues. Added to this is the fact that the artists present at this year's festival in some cases did not have high streaming levels. However, if we look at the performances of those who came to Sanremo, we find that they are still experiencing significant growth.
On this year's podium, this year's winner Sal Da Vinci grew by 163% since the announcement and now has 2.1 million monthly listeners. Sayf, younger and therefore a streaming oriented artist, advanced 72% to 2.4 million. Third-placed Ditonellapiaga then experienced a 991% increase in monthly listeners, now reaching 1.7 million.
The champion of this edition, in terms of the number of monthly listeners, remains Luché who stands at 3.9 million (+18.1%). Behind him Fedez, up 38.4% to 3.6 million. Third place for Tommaso Paradiso who grew by 50% to reach 3 million monthly listeners.
