Sexist and vulgar insults on social media against Governor Alessandra Todde
The denunciation of the 5 Star Movement Sardinia. Solidarity and condemnation from allies and adversaries.
The denunciation comes from the Movimento 5 stelle Sardegna: "sexist and vulgar insults" on social media against the President of the Region Alessandra Todde. "We express our strongest condemnation and solidarity with Alessandra Todde, victim of a shameful wave of violent and sexist attacks on social media," the M5S representatives wrote in a post accompanied by photos of the attacks. "Unworthy insults such as 'pu**ana', 'liar', 'sow', 'mafiosa' and personal insults aimed at delegitimising Alessandra are not only despicable, but reveal the total absence of arguments of those who would like to stop the work of renewal in Sardinia. Not only that, the denunciation continues: "Those who use hate and verbal violence to tear down a woman do so because they fear her strength, determination and integrity." The post goes on to emphasise that 'Alessandra Todde will not bend before those who try to intimidate her with despicable and discriminatory insults'. "We strongly reiterate that nothing justifies verbal violence and sexism, and we call on everyone to unite in rejecting these unacceptable attacks," the post concludes. The fight for respect for women must continue with courage, determination and without ever giving in to contempt and fear. Alessandra, you are not alone: we are with you, with determination and pride'.
Solidarity from the allies
The solidarity of the allies followed close on the heels: from the Movement's representatives to those of Sinistra Futura to continue with the exponents of the so-called 'Campo Largo'. Pd secretary Silvio Lai took a tough stance: 'The sexist insults addressed to President Alessandra Todde are a disgrace. They have nothing to do with politics, but with hatred and violence,' says Lai. 'Hitting a woman for the mere fact of being a woman means hitting each and every one of us. It has already happened in recent days with the mayor of Genoa who denounced it publicly. Politics must be confrontation, not aggression. Passion, not violence. Respect and not oppression'. Then solidarity: 'To President Todde goes my full and sincere solidarity, both personal and political. Those who choose the path of insult betray democracy and civilisation. Defending respect for people is not a partisan gesture: it is everyone's duty'.
The President of the Regional Council
Solidarity and firm condemnation, also on behalf of the Regional Council, from President Piero Comandini to Regional President Alessandra Todde, who was the target of insults on social media.
