Sarroch: Confindustria and trade unions reach agreement on working safely during heatwaves

An agreement between the company, trade unions and Confindustria to ensure safe working conditions during periods of extreme heat. This is the aim of the agreement signed between the Federmeccanica section of Confindustria Sardegna Meridionale and the trade union organisations Fiom, FSM and UILM, setting out guidelines for the prevention and management of heat-related risks at the Sarroch Industrial Park.

The initiative was carried out as part of the pilot project “Prevenzione Sardegna 2025”, promoted by the INAIL Sardinia Regional Directorate and, as Confindustria points out, “benefited from the active technical and scientific contribution of Sarlux, part of the Saras Group”.

“This is a highly significant achievement for the Sarroch site,” emphasises Andrea Porcu, director of Confindustria Sardegna, “which is at the forefront nationally in terms of prevention initiatives and continuous improvement in the field of health and safety at work.”

At the heart of the agreement between the various signatories is an ‘experimental and innovative model of collaboration between businesses and sectoral social partners to tackle the impacts of climate change in the workplace, whilst ensuring business continuity within a regulatory framework that protects and guarantees workers’ safety’.

Specifically, the regional agreement has devised an alert and monitoring system, which will be implemented in the metalworking sector. “The programme is structured around four risk levels,” adds Porcu – each corresponding to targeted and progressive management guidelines which, starting with the organisation of breaks and the reorganisation of working hours, extend to defining the circumstances in which the suspension of production activities is necessary.”
