Arrested by the carabinieri of Latina Antonello Lovato for the charge of 'malicious murder of Singh Satnam '. This was announced by the Latina Public Prosecutor's Office. "On the basis of the results of the medical-legal consultancy, the Prosecutor's Office has changed the hypothesis of the crime that was initially set out (manslaughter) and has challenged the crime of intentional homicide, explains a note. - The medical-legal consultancy has ascertained that if the Indian, who died of copious blood loss, had been promptly rescued, he would in all probability have been saved.
In the note, the Latina Public Prosecutor's Office adds that 'the worker's condition after the accident was so serious that the need for prompt assistance was evident'. For the investigators, 'the decision to omit the necessary assistance constituted acceptance of the risk of the lethal event and integrated the cause that directly determined the death'. The investigation, explains the public prosecutor's office, is continuing 'with reference to the crime in question and other related crimes, with specific regard to the assessment of working conditions'.
"We were waiting for this news, we were angry"
.With these words, Gurmukh Singh, president of the Indian community in Lazio, comments on the news of the arrest of Antonello Lovato, the owner of the farm in Borgo Santa Maria who abandoned Indian labourer Satnam Singh in front of his house after he lost an arm in an accident at work. "The worst thing he did was to leave him in front of his house instead of taking him to hospital. An accident can happen, but not calling for help is inadmissible," Gurmukh Singh's words.
The judge: inhuman conduct by Lovato
In the order, the judge reconstructs what happened on 17 June in Cisterna di Latina. According to the judge, 'it was Lovato, who, contrary to what was due, loaded the body into the van and, separately, the amputated limb, and Lovato abandoned the body and the limb in Via Genova, fleeing'. For the Court of Latina, it is clear that the suspect did not want the death of his Indian labourer, but due to his conduct and lucid operational methods (only defeated by his declarations, according to which he acted in the terms described because he was in shock) - it is said in the order - he reasonably foresaw the probable death of Satnam, consciously accepting the risk'.
The condition of the labourer 'in a state of semi-consciousness, with an amputated arm and copious blood loss, make, for anyone's assessment, the fatal event inevitable, especially in the absence of a sudden medical intervention'. The behaviour following the abandonment of the body 'unequivocally argues and characterises the homicidal conduct,' writes gio, 'precisely in the descriptive terms of the possible intent'.
