Schlein blocks De Luca's third term: 'We will not support him'
The PD secretariat: the rules apply to everyone and the national law limiting two terms of office applies to us

The secretariat of the PD Elly Schlein decisively blocks Vincenzo De Luca's plan for a third term in Campania ahead of the elections in autumn 2025 (unless possible postponement to spring 2026). 'The PD has a very clear position: we are against a third term. For us, the national law that provides for a two-term limit applies. They can vote for all the regional laws they want, but the PD will not support outgoing presidents for a third term'.
Towards the break
.A third race, added the Dem secretary interviewed by Fabio Fazio on 'Che tempo che fa', would also be supported 'with pleasure' for Decaro and Bonaccini. "But the rules apply to everyone and if someone is not used to it because it worked differently before, now it is good for them to get used to the change because I was elected exactly to do this".
Last Friday, the first committee of the Campania Regional Council had approved the bill to transpose the national rule that provides for the ineligibility of the president of the junta who has served two terms. But with an interpretation that paves the way for De Luca: the counting of terms of office is triggered by the entry into force of the law. Tomorrow the Campania Regional Council will give the go-ahead. This will officially and simultaneously sanction the yes to De Luca's re-election and a deep split between the national and regional PD: the PD regional councillors (except one) have in fact supported the line in favour of De Luca. Voting against instead came from the 5 Star Movement and the centre-right.
The names in the field
.In the event of De Luca's self-candidacy (which appears to be a foregone conclusion), it would complicate the race for a representative of the centre-left, an area from which the outgoing governor would also draw. And this would end up favouring the centre-right. In the centre-left camp, among the names being mentioned are those of the current mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, one of the first public administrators to be elected as a proposal of the wide field. There would be, again if the candidate were an expression of a Pd-M5S agreement, the hypothesis of Roberto Fico. But the former president of the Chamber of Deputies could only be in the game if the line of overcoming the two-term limit passed in the 5 Star Movement.
