School building projects: €360 million from the Development and Cohesion Fund
For safety, fire safety, asbestos removal in schools and the removal of architectural barriers
The Cohesion Agreement has been signed between the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Mobility (MIM) for a major investment plan aimed at improving safety and fire safety standards in school buildings, with a total budget of €360 million.
The plan
The plan builds on all the measures set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), which has allocated over €12 billion to fund projects covering more than a quarter of school buildings, as well as on the recent €429 million scheme specifically dedicated to fire safety and building safety. “School safety remains a strategic priority for this Government, and we will continue to invest in it to ensure that students and school staff have safe and welcoming spaces and environments,” said the Minister for Education and Merit, Giuseppe Valditara.
The plan will enable fire safety and safety measures, as well as the elimination of conditions rendering buildings totally or partially unfit for use, the removal of architectural barriers and the remediation of surfaces containing asbestos.
