School curricula, now it's the high schools' turn: IA and alternance abroad
New national indications are also coming for high schools, meanwhile the initial primary and secondary classes start in September
The second half of the school curriculum reform has begun. The commission of experts commissioned by Minister Valditara and led once again by pedagogist Loredana Perla (who had already presided over the work on the rewriting of the national indications for the first cycle of education, ndr) has concluded its work and delivered to MIM a first draft with proposals for schools, technical and professional institutes. Among the new features, which would come in any case from 2027/28, would be the entry of the AI in all disciplines and school work abroad training. Earlier, however, it will be the turn of kindergarten, primary and middle school, which will experience the reform as early as September 2026. But only in the initial classes.
Starting with primary and secondary
We have reported on the coming changes for the first cycle several times in the Sole 24 Ore. For example, already in the seventh grade it will be possible to study Latin. While in primary school, memorized poems and summaries will return and more emphasis will be placed on cursive. Not forgetting the emphasis onforeign languages, music, Stem and computer science. The new fact is that the restyling will not start immediately in all classes.
The ministerial decree accompanying the new national indications dictates the schedule. As of the school year 2026/2027, the kindergartens and schools of the first cycle of education of the national education system will adopt the new programmes 'starting from the first classes of primary school and secondary school, proceeding in the first implementation and with gradualness to the reworking of the school curriculum,' reads the Ministerial Decree.
This means that by September 2026 it will only be the turn of kindergarten, first grade and sixth grade to adapt to the changes. In the second and third middle school classes, experimentation with Latin for language education (Lel) can begin. In the intermediate classes, therefore, the old 2012 indications will remain in force, which will apply, in middle school, until 2028/29 and in primary school until 2030/31.
The same timing will apply to school books. The contents of textbooks are to be updated as early as 2026/27 for the first classes of primary and secondary schools. An exception is the subject 'history', which is to be updated as early as the school year 2027/28 for the third grade.
