Three students were shot at a Colorado high school and are in critical condition. Around 12:24 p.m. (local time), the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office received the first report of a shooting that occurred in the courtyard of Evergreen High School, located about 30 miles southwest of Denver, according to Jacki Kelley, a sheriff's spokeswoman.
Hundreds of police officers intervened. The shooting also involved a student who allegedly wielded a gun, according to Kelley at a press conference. The spokesman said it did not appear that officers fired any shots. The high school, which houses more than 900 students, was declared safe after a police check.
The shooter died from wounds he self-inflicted after opening fire. This was announced on X by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Police are now searching his home, his school locker and his car for evidence of a possible motive.
