The coordination cabin for active policies to reduce the seismic vulnerability of public buildings was set up today morning, Thursday 27 June, at Palazzo Chigi, in the presence of the Undersecretary to the Prime Minister, Alfredo Mantovano, and the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, Nello Musumeci. The cabin, chaired by the head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabrizio Curcio, and by the head of the 'Casa Italia' Department, Luigi Ferrara, is made up of representatives from ten central administrations (the ministries of Culture, Defence, Economy and Finance, Justice, Interior, Infrastructure and Transport, Education and Merit, Health, University and Research, and the State Property Agency), the Conference of the Regions, the National Association of Italian Municipalities (Anci), and the Union of Italian Provinces (Upi).
At the centre of the meeting, explains a note from Palazzo Chigi, was the multi-year programme of interventions envisaged by the 2024 budget law, with an overall budget of 285 million, spread over the four-year period 2024-2028 and intended to reduce the vulnerability of public infrastructure to earthquake risk. The other sources of funding that could flow into the multi-year programme were illustrated and, drawing from the Mef database, the numbers of public buildings that will be prioritised for intervention.
At the next meeting, to be held on 12 July, a tight timetable will be drawn up to allow for the definition of a multi-year plan of public infrastructure safety interventions that the coordination cabin will propose to Minister Musumeci for government consideration.
