Seltin Group in Termini Imerese: new workshop and Academy for 4.0 technicians

Seltin Group, a company specialising in technical and engineering services for the automotive, industrial and defence sectors, is investing in Sicily and has chosen Termini Imerese as the base for its expansion into southern Italy. The group, which has 85 employees, a turnover in excess of €6 million and operational sites in Bologna, Sant’Agata Bolognese and Málaga, Spain, has acquired a laboratory within the Meccatronica Valley complex. The facility will become the technical and operational base for the company’s Sicilian operations and will serve as a coordination centre for projects in the defence, engineering, automotive and research and development sectors. The new facility strengthens the group’s presence in southern Italia and aims to create new opportunities for the region, both in terms of employment and in the areas of training and industrial innovation.

“The arrival of a group such as Seltin is a clear sign of Termini Imerese’s renewed industrial appeal,” says Antonello Mineo, chairman of the Meccatronica Valley Cluster. According to Mineo, the establishment of a highly specialised organisation reinforces the cluster’s growth trajectory and contributes to the creation of an ecosystem in which businesses, research and training can engage in increasingly effective dialogue. “This investment opens up new prospects for skilled employment, fosters the development of young people’s skills and offers local businesses a technological partner with whom to develop innovation and new production chains,” he adds. The aim, explains the president, is to make Termini Imerese a leading centre in southern Italy for mechatronics, industrial automation and advanced logistics, attracting investment capable of generating sustainable development, stable employment and added value for the Sicilian economy.

The Seltin Group’s operations in Termini Imerese will focus on technical, maintenance, engineering and operational support activities. The site will be used for work on operational vehicles, automotive systems and industrial plant, as well as for diagnostics, fault-finding and the integration of mechanical, electronic and software components. The workshop will also manage equipment, spare parts, materials and components, and will house workstations dedicated to technical and engineering staff involved in the development of industrial and automotive projects. The project involves setting up a qualified and flexible working group, which is set to grow progressively in line with the projects undertaken and the opportunities that arise across Sicily.

The roles involved will include maintenance technicians, mechanics and metalworkers, bodywork and structural metalwork specialists, as well as electrical and electronics technicians and systems engineers. These roles will be supported by project managers, technical liaison officers, logistics and operational administration staff, mechanical and electronic engineers, and software and IT specialists. The project may also involve experts in digitalisation, data analysis and artificial intelligence, as well as staff engaged in design, research and development activities. Seltin thus aims to build an organisation capable of adapting to a variety of industrial contracts and offering specialist expertise to businesses operating in Sicily.

This investment also stems from the need to address one of the key challenges facing the European industrial sector: the growing shortage of skilled technicians. The widespread adoption of automated systems has, in fact, led to an increase in demand for expertise in mechanical and electromechanical maintenance, industrial automation and PLC system diagnostics.
