Iran, President Pezeshkian reportedly tenders his resignation
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has reportedly sent a letter to the office of the Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, tendering his resignation. This was reported by Iran International, a London-based broadcaster dissident of the Islamic Republic.
According to an anonymous official quoted by the broadcaster, in the letter Pezeshkian allegedly denounced the increasing control exercised by the Revolutionary Guardians (Pasdaran) over large areas of the state apparatus, claiming that the president and other high-ranking officials were excluded from the country's main decision-making processes.
The Head of State is also reported to have stated that he is no longer able to govern effectively or fulfil his responsibilities under the current conditions, and therefore asked to leave office.
Anonymous sources quoted by Iran International indicate that at the origin of the tensions between Pezeshkian and the Pasdaran leadership there are deep disagreements over the management of the war and its economic and social consequences. In particular, the president is said to have criticised the impact of the conflict on the living conditions of the population and the country's economy.
The news, writes the Jerusalem Post, has so far received no official confirmation from the Iranian authorities.

Times of Israel: 'Netanyahu seeks US approval for attacks on Beirut'
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is holding a high-level security consultation following the intensified fighting against Hezbollah in Lebanon. This was reported to the Times of Israel by an Israeli official. The meeting would be aimed at gaining Washington's support for the attacks against the group in Beirut, according to the Israeli Channel 12. According to the channel, Israel aims to move from a strategy focused on controlling territory in southern Lebanon to broader air operations that also involve the Lebanese capital.
Netanyahu spokeyesterday on the phone with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, trying to convince both him and other senior Trump administration officials that Israel cannot in fact grant immunity to Hezbollah in Beirut, even if targeted killings were to remain permitted. According to reports by Channel 12, the Israel Defence Forces have presented the political leadership with a number of operational plans in recent days, including some for Beirut that include the evacuation of civilians. Netanyahu also admitted in closed-door meetings that Israel cannot operate as freely as it would like because of American restrictions. "The Americans are showing more openness, but there is no final approval, at least for now," an Israeli official told the broadcaster.

Macron to Arab leaders: nothing justifies escalation in Lebanon
"As far as regional stability is concerned, it must start in Lebanon, where it is urgent that the weapons shut down, all of them, and for good. Nothing justifies the major escalation taking place in southern Lebanon. France will continue its support to the Lebanese authorities in their efforts to re-establish the sovereignty of the State and the territorial integrity of the country'. This was written by French President, Emmanuel Macron on X following conversations with Hereditary Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammed Ben Salman, Sultan of Oman Haïtham Bin Tariq, Emiratian President Mohammed Ben Zayed and Egyptian President Abdefattah Al Sissi.
"To everyone," Macron writes, "I bring the same message: it is essential that an agreement between the United States and Iran materialises quickly. This opportunity must be seized now. The priority must go to the conclusion of a ceasefire and the immediate reopening of the Strait of Ormuz, without any conditions and in accordance with international law. Discussions must then continue in order to reach a comprehensive and solid agreement on the other issues, in particular the nuclear and ballistic programme, and regional stability. France is ready to play its full part in this by helping to resume maritime traffic with the independent multinational mission launched with the United Kingdom, by supporting the discussions on the nuclear issue with its expertise and capabilities, and by contributing to the indispensable establishment of a regional security framework with the partners whose protection it has helped to ensure in recent months'.

Cnn: Tehran reopens underground missile sites, the limits of US strategy
Iran may be ready to launch a much larger number of long-range missiles against Israel and other Middle Eastern countries after rapidly unearthing its underground arsenals. This was revealed by CNN, which quotes experts, for whom the limits of the US bombing strategy would thus emerge. For weeks, American and Israeli attacks have restricted Iran's access to its underground missile sites by destroying roads and burying tunnel entrances. But satellite images reviewed by CNN show how Iran has used simple equipment such as bulldozers and dump trucks to counter those campaigns, suggesting that Tehran's missile capabilities cannot be destroyed simply by targeting tunnel entrances.
Should hostilities resume, Iran would be able to 'continue to launch missiles as long as it has launchers and crews, even if production has stopped,' said Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies who analyses Iran's missile capabilities. 'There is nothing to stop the launchers from being armed with the large arsenal of missiles the Iranians still have. According to CNN, Iran has now unblocked 50 of 69 tunnel entrances hit by the US and Israel at 18 underground missile facilities and has also repaired other parts of the bases, including roads that the US and Israel had bombed to prevent missile launchers from using them.
"The US military is good at achieving tactical successes, and burying and suppressing the Iranian missile force is an excellent example of that," Lair noted, "However, if this is not accompanied by a set of reasonable strategic warfighting objectives and a viable theory of victory, it can end up being a strategic failure." Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell did not respond to questions from CNN, merely repeating an earlier statement that "the US military is the most powerful in the world and has everything it needs to operate at the time and place of the president's choosing."

Hamas funding, clues based on open sources are not valid

Neither the documents marked "Avi" of Israeli origin, nor the so-called "open sources" fished from the web, can be used in the trials on alleged funds to Hamas by charities supporting Palestine. The Court of Cassation deposited the grounds, with which on 8 April, it had annulled the orders of the Genoa Re-examination Department that had confirmed, among others, the arrests of Mohammad Hannoun, the Palestinian activist and architect accused of terrorist association (Article 270-bis of the Penal Code) for allegedly financing Hamas through his charity Association of Solidarity with the Palestinian People (Abspp). The man had been arrested at the end of December along with six other people.
But the Supreme Court, in a series of orders (19364/2026 and others), dismantled a circumstantial framework based on non-usable sources.

Barrot: 'Idf advances too far in Lebanon'. France calls for flash meeting UN Council
France has requested an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council after the Israeli army occupied the iconic medieval fortress of Beaufort in Lebanon, where its flag now flies. This was announced by French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to the television channel Bfmtv. "This is a serious mistake for Israel because this advance into Lebanese territory is not only contrary to Israel's commitments, since we have had a ceasefire in Lebanon since 17 April, but it is also contrary to international law," he added.
"I called for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council," the minister explained, "because, while recognising Israel's right, like that of all countries, to self-defence, to defend itself against Hezbollah attacks, nothing can justify the continuation of Israeli military operations in Lebanon and its ever-deepening occupation of Lebanese territory.

Lebanon, Netanyahu orders expanded operations
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered the Israel Defence Forces to expand operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon, following the advance across the Litani River and the seizure of the Beaufort ridge in the south of the country.
"I ordered the Israel Defence Forces to expand manoeuvres in Lebanon," Netanyahu said in a video released today. "Our forces crossed the Litani River. They have taken dominant positions. They have conquered the Beaufort ridge. And now my instruction is to deepen and extend our control in places that were in the hands of Hezbollah," he added.
Earlier, Defence Minister Israel Katz announced that Israeli forces had extended their control over Beaufort Castle, a strategic fortification located on high ground in the governorate of Nabatiye in southern Lebanon. Israeli troops had already captured Beaufort in 1982, during the First Lebanon War, before withdrawing from the area in 2000.
"The conquest of Beaufort is a crucial step and a drastic change in the policy we are pursuing," Netanyahu said. "We are taking the initiative, operating on all fronts: in Syria, in Gaza, in Lebanon we have established security zones beyond our borders to protect our communities," he added.
As Israeli forces advance inside Lebanon, Hezbollah rocket attacks against locations in northern Israel multiplied. Air raid sirens resounded in Kiryat Shmona, Nahariya, Safed, Karmiel and other towns.
The Home Front Command tightened the directives for the population in the northern areas, including those for meetings and educational institutions, while the hospital in Nahariya was ordered to move its activities to the basement.

Trump: we spared Iran army because 'moderate'
US President Donald Trump said thatthe Iranian navy and air force had been 'completely' annihilated, while the army would be somewhat spared because it was considered 'relatively moderate'. He said this in an interview with Fox News.
"Their navy is completely gone, 100 per cent. Their air force is completely gone, 100 per cent," Trump said.
The US president argued that Washington would instead avoid systematically striking the Iranian army. "Their military, on the other hand, we've sort of left it alone because we think it's relatively moderate," he said.
Trump then distinguished between the military and other sectors of the Iranian leadership. "There are other elements that are not moderate. We have eliminated them. We have eliminated several leadership figures. We actually left their army alone,' he said.
According to the US president, this choice was also dictated by a desire to avoid mistakes made in the past in other conflicts. "People would be surprised to hear that, because mistakes have been made in wars in the past when you annihilated everybody and then you ended up with a country that could not rebuild for 40 years," he said.
Trump then reiterated: 'Their navy is completely gone, 100 per cent'.

Nyt: Trump's toughened deal proposal sent to Iran
According to three officials, President Trump has tightened the terms of a potential framework agreement to end the war in Iran and referred proposed changes to the country for its consideration. The New York Times writes this. One official added that Trump was frustrated by Iran's slow response to the US proposals and further stated that Trump's changes - a new, tougher proposal - were probably intended to speed up the process by putting pressure on Iran to accept the framework already sent to Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei for approval.
Reaching the Supreme Leader proved difficult, so any changes to the document, known as the memorandum of understanding, could lead to further delays, the New York Times continues. It was not immediately clear, says the US newspaper, what changes had been made to the text of the agreement. Two officials said that Trump would be concerned about certain parts that included the release of funds for Iran. He had sharply criticised President Barack Obama for doing the same in the agreement signed over a decade ago to limit Iran's nuclear programme. The proposals were drafted with the involvement of intermediaries, including Pakistan.

Axios: Trump demanded changes to Iran deal
US President Donald Trump demanded several amendments to the agreement his envoys reached with Iranian counterparts during a meeting in the Situation Room on Friday, Axios reports, according to a senior administration official and a second source close to the dossier. Trump wants the deal and plans to finalise it soon, but intends to strengthen several points dear to him, particularly those relating to Iran's nuclear material, according to two US officials. Trump's request triggered a new round of exchanges between the parties, which could go on for several days.
Trump announced a cabinet meeting in the Situation Room on Friday about the deal, hinting that he was inclined to accept it. After the meeting, a White House official told reporters that the president "will only make a deal if it is beneficial to America, respects its 'red lines' and ensures that Iran can never acquire a nuclear weapon." Iranian officials, on the other hand, told their media that they had not approved the final text, despite the fact that two US officials had claimed earlier in the week that Tehran was ready to sign and that the final decision was now solely up to Trump. According to the two sources, Axios added, the tycoon asked his staff to make changes specifically to the clauses on Iran's nuclear programme. In its original form, the memorandum included Tehran's commitment not to pursue the development of nuclear weapons, without providing for specific concessions beyond that commitment. The text sets 60 days to negotiate Iran's nuclear commitments and the lifting of sanctions by the US: the first items on the agenda are how to dispose of Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium and measures to limit further enrichment. "It is a matter of defining more precisely how the US will acquire the material and the timing of this," said the senior official on enriched uranium. The second source added that Trump would like to change the wording of some passages on the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. According to Trump, it will take about three days for the Iranian side to provide a response. "They are literally in caves and don't use e-mail," the senior official noted. The belief is that "an agreement will be reached. As for its imminence, we will see. We are willing to wait for the president to get what he is asking for. It could take a week. It could take less or more. Early next week, we hope to have something'. Iranian state media have reported that a deal is imminent, although not yet final, claiming that Iran would receive billions in frozen funds: a circumstance denied by the White House, however.

Trump: negotiations with Iran slow, they will not have a nuclear weapon
"Negotiations are proceeding slowly, it takes a long time. I am not in a hurry. I'd like to say I'm in a hurry - because gas prices are going to double - but if you're in a hurry, you don't get a good deal." US President Donald Trump said this when interviewed by his daughter-in-law Lara Trump on Fox News, assuring that Iran will not have a nuclear weapon and will have to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
