AI boom boosts Nasdaq. Wall Street thwarts. A2A soars in Milan

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor)-European stock exchanges closed contrastingly in the first session of the month of November, after the stock markets posted their seventh consecutive month of gains in October. Milan's FTSE MIB ended the month in positive territory (+0.11%) thanks to the rally of A2A (+7.2%), while Frankfurt's Dax (+0.6%) and Madrid's Ibex (+0.1%) were also above par, while the Paris CAC (-0.1%), Amsterdam's Aex (-0.1%) and London's Ftse 100 (-0.2%) were weaker.
Investors are focusing on macroeconomic data coming in this week, withEurozone manufacturing activity rising to 50 points in October (from 49.8). On the US front, the focus is on labour market data due to be released on Friday, assuming the federal shutdown ends. Meanwhile, the manufacturing Ism fell to 48.7 points, below estimates.
On Wall Street well on Nasdaq with AI boom
Wall Street chiude contrastata. Il Dow Jones perde lo 0,47% a 47.337,57 punti, il Nasdaq sale dello 0,46% a 23.834,72 punti, beneficiando del boom dell’intelligenza artificiale, mentre lo S&P 500 avanza dello 0,17% a 6.852,07 punti. I mercati americani sono reduci da una sessione positiva che ha contribuito ai guadagni di ottobre, trainati dal continuo slancio nel settore dell'intelligenza artificiale e dai segnali di allentamento delle tensioni commerciali tra Stati Uniti e Cina. Continuano gli acquisti su Amazon dopo che la sua divisione cloud ha firmato un accordo da 38 miliardi di dollari per soddisfare una quota dell'enorme richiesta di potenza di calcolo di OpenAI. Campari slides in Milan, A2A and banks do well
Sull’azionario milanese, in rally A2A (+7,2%), forte della promozione di Morgan Stanley che ha alzato il giudizio a ‘Overweight’ da ‘Equal Weight’ e ha portato il target price a 3,25 euro dai precedenti 2,55 euro. Acquisti anche su Leonardo (+2,4%) e Italgas (+2,3%). Ben impostate le banche, con Popolare di Sondrio (+1,6%) e Banca Mediolanum (+1,2%) tra le migliori. In coda al listino scivola Campari (-2,4%), dopo il maxi sequestro preventivo di azioni della società, detenute dalla holding lussemburghese Lagfin (che controlla il 51,8% del capitale di Campari), per un controvalore di circa 1,2 miliardi di euro. Vendite anche su Tim (-2,3%) e Ferrari (-2%). Fuori dal paniere principale, corre il titolo di Bff Bank (+4,2%) dopo che la Banca d'Italia ha revocato il divieto di distribuzione dei dividendi.
Euro/dollar at three-month lows, crude oil volatile
On the currency front, the euro/dollar exchange rate remained at a three-month low of 1.152 (down from 1.153 on Friday). The single currency was also worth 177.69 yen (up from 177.77), while the Japanese dollar/yen cross was 154.13 (up from 154). On the energy front, oil was volatile after Opec+ decided to increase production next month but to suspend further increases for the first three months of 2026: +0.06% for January contracts on Brent at 65.13 dollars a barrel and +0.57% for December contracts on Wti at 61.33 dollars. Natural gas was up, trading at 31.79 euros per MWh in Amsterdam (+2.1%)
