Serbia: Vucic speaks to Putin and seeks a long-term extension of gas supplies
Agreement expires on 30 September: "I think it will be extended"
(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Serbia is seeking an extension to its gas supplies from Moscow, and an agreement is expected to be reached following a telephone call this morning between President Aleksandar Vučić and Vladimir Putin. The Serbian president himself reported this on Instagram. “The gas agreement expires on 30 September. I believe that, following today’s conversation, it will be extended and that we will ensure stable gas supplies.” Serbia, he added, will continue to benefit from a “favourable gas price of 318 euros ($362) per 1,000 cubic metres, rather than paying the market price, which currently stands at 868 euros ($988)”. Belgrade is keen on a long-term deal and had already tried, unsuccessfully, to reach a broader agreement back in 2025. Serbia’s leading oil company, NIS, is under pressure from US sanctions due to the Russian firm Gazprom Neft’s stake in its capital. The sanctions are currently suspended until the end of the month, pending the Russian group’s transfer of its controlling stake to the Hungarian firm Mol.
