Seri confirms Teverola 2 investment: 200 million spent
The Campania-based company has hired a team of technicians and is in the process of assembling the equipment: the gigafactory will be operational in 2027

The Teverola 2 gigafactory project in the province of Caserta is going ahead according to plan. As of 31 December 2025, some EUR 200 million had been invested _ says the report by Seri Industrial, which is carrying out the operation _ and most of the equipment is ready and will be installed in the coming months. Recruitment started in 2023, so that today we can say that the team of experts composed of Italians and foreigners under the leadership of Dominique Ligeois, chosen as chief technology officer (cto), has been completed. Ligeois is an authority in the field: since 1995, he has been involved in the design of lithium-ion cells and batteries, having directed several highly industrialised production lines in various countries (mainly the United States, France and Sweden) and companies. Production of Teverola 2 is scheduled to start by 2027.
The confirmation of the investment and all the programmes of the Seri Industrial group on Teverola (where there is a first active plant and a second under construction) becomes particularly interesting in a European context of delays, cancellations and a substantial downsizing of the European Union's energy and environmental transition objectives. Especially after the bankruptcy of Sweden's Northvolt and Stellantis' renunciation of its investment in Termoli.
"We do not produce lithium batteries for cars _ clarifies Marco Civitillo, managing director of Seri _ but cells and systems for complete batteries for storage applications (Ess), for industrial and commercial electric mobility, and for public transport. A market that we believe is resilient, constantly growing, and which requires products made in Europe. This has been our project since 2015'.
The Teverola 2 investment, financed by the Ipcei Fund, obtained public contributions amounting to 505,843,000, or 100% of the total sum. It is promoted by the company Seri Industrial Spa, listed on the EXM market of the Italian Stock Exchange. This is building a new line for the production and assembly of lithium cells and batteries that will bring the capacity of the Campania site to 8 GWh per year.
Meanwhile, the Teverola 1 plant, located in the same area, indeed adjacent to 2, is now fully operational: this first, smaller industrial plant produces cells and batteries on aqueous solution and has a production capacity of 0.350 gigawatt hours (GWh) per year. From 2025 it produces and sells on the market. But it has above all a role as a test and 'pilot' plant for mass production on Teverola 2.
