Services, logistics and trade the sectors from which more than half of the temporary job offers come

When it comes to temporary work, almost 7 out of 10 workers are under the age of 34. The most active sectors are services, logistics and commerce, from which more than 60 per cent of offers arrive, while the peak is between June and July. These data are in line with those of the past year, those that emerge from the new edition of iziwatch, iziwork's observatory dedicated to temporary work and based on the data of 75 thousand people who are present on the Italian platform of the employment agency, born in France in 2018 and landed in Italy in 2020. In 2023, it officially became part of the Proman group and has more than one million registered workers and 1,200 client companies on its Italian platform.

In temporary work, business services and the IT sector are in the lead, which alone account for almost 29% of assignments. This is followed by transport and logistics (15.9%), retail trade (13.7%) and public services (12%). The hospitality and catering sector also maintains a key role with 6.4%.

Among the most in-demand roles are figures such as hostesses for ceremonies and parties (19.7 %), order processing (13.2 %) and logistics (10.4 %), general workers (7.5 %) and security agents (5.6), reflecting the variety of needs expressed by companies in the various organisation-intensive fields of operation. According to the data platform analysed by iziwatch, almost 7 out of 10 temporary workers are under 34 years old: 32.8% are between 15 and 24 years old, 35.5% between 25 and 34.

Contracts are short in most cases: 90% do not exceed 90 days, in line with seasonal needs or the temporary nature of assignments. This figure is largely influenced by seasonal work, which by its nature follows cyclical trends and responds to well-defined temporary needs on the part of companies. It is no coincidence that, as in previous years, in 2025 the highest peaks of requests are recorded in June and July, in view of the summer season.

In our country, temporary work is still the main gateway for young people to enter the labour market, in a context in which companies struggle to find skilled labour and young people concrete opportunities: on average in Italy in 2024, according to Eurostat data, 12.6% of workers between 15 and 64 years of age had a temporary contract, a percentage that rises to 49.5% in the 15 to 24 age bracket. "Temporary work represents a concrete opportunity for a wide variety of people: from young people entering the world of work for the first time, to those looking for greater flexibility, to those who want to re-enter the market after a break or embark on a new career path. At the same time, it is a strategic resource for businesses, which can count on an agile and immediate solution, capable of adapting to often urgent and constantly evolving operational needs,' explains David Bryant Commercial Director of iziwork Italia. Looking at what happens in other European countries, we find that on temporary work Italy is quite in line with the main economies: higher values are recorded in the Netherlands (21.8%) and Spain (16.4%), while the Italian situation is more similar to that of Germany (11.1%), Sweden (13.2%) and France (13.8%).
