"Let's fight, let's fight, let's fight." These were the words of Donald Trump after he was injured at a rally in Pennsylvania, as the Secret Service was carrying him off the stage. Panic in Butler, Pennsylvania: as Trump was addressing the crowd, displaying a sign with figures of illegal immigrants entering the United States, gunshots were heard.
Trump immediately touched his neck with his right hand and there appeared to be blood on his face. The tycoon then took cover behind the podium as Secret Service agents came on stage to protect him and more gunfire was heard. The tycoon was then immediately escorted off the stage by the agents, with some moments of general excitement. As the Secret Service was taking him off the stage, Donald Trump asked his agents to get 'his shoes'. Distraught and with his shirt open, the tycoon was then dragged inside the SUV. Bleeding but on his feet, Donald Trump raised his fist before being taken away by the Secret Service. The crowd greeted him with shouts of encouragement, but were also panicked by the gunshots heard.
The Secret Service in Butler, Pennsylvania, had the press removed from the rally where Trump was shot while speaking. The area was declared a 'crime scene'. A video then circulated on the web, X in particular, showing the man who allegedly fired at Trump being blocked by law enforcement. Some other footage shows the man on the ground covered in blood. It was unclear from the video whether he was later arrested or killed by police. Butler's prosecutor later clarified that the shooter was killed by police and there is at least one other victim, the Associated Press reported.
"President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their swift action during this heinous act," spokesman Steven Cheung said in a note. "He is doing well and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow."
The President of the United States, Joe Biden , was immediately informed of the incident, the White House reported. "Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There is no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it," so Biden in a note circulated by the White House after the attack on Donald Trump. Then Biden added: "We can't be like this, everyone must condemn" what happened, the president said speaking on live TV, returning to condemn political violence. "Shortly" Biden himself will phone Donald Trump. This was reported by the US president himself, commenting in front of reporters on the attack on the former president. "I don't have all the details yet," the president said, promising, when they become available, to share them with the press. "Trump's rally was supposed to take place peacefully and without any problems. But the idea that there is political violence in America is simply unheard of," the US president added. As for Trump, he added, 'so far, he seems to be doing well'. Asked whether this was an assassination attempt, Biden said, 'I don't know enough to have an opinion, I don't know the facts. I want to make sure I have all the facts before I make any comments."
