Our mission is to enhance the Italian audiovisual system in a European and global context: we have received over 140 titles from 34 countries on five continents. We aim to make Rimini and Riccione places of excellence for international seriality thanks to the presence of foreign talent and producers because we believe that a Festival is first and foremost a meeting point from which investments, collaborations, and projects can arise, and secondly, a communication showcase of the highest order. The Italian Global Series Festival stems from the commitment of the government, the Mic, the Undersecretary for Culture, Lucia Borgonzoni, and the President of the Audiovisual Producers Association (Apa) to restore the course of the RomaFictionFest, which from 2007 to 2016 was one of the main European festivals related to seriality. When that Festival was no longer there, Italian series and productions, apart from a few, lost international visibility and the Italian audiovisual sector was 'reduced' to being the guest of other events with some series presented out of competition at major Film Festivals such as Venice, Rome, Turin and Bari. The Italian Global Series Festival, therefore, is first and foremost a tool, a 'platform' to allow our industry to play 'at home'. When Italy renounced the RomaFictionFest, France, for example, took advantage, and rightly so, by organising three serial festivals (Cannes, Lille, La Rochelle) with a total value of around fifteen million euros. It is therefore right that Italy too should return to having its own seriality Festival for communication purposes and soft power in terms of industrial networking and distribution action. The audiovisual sector needs such an event because it is necessary to turn the spotlight on the value and importance of seriality in today's society. The audience is the great protagonist of the Festival, which is free admission because in order to project international television series on the big screen, one of the clauses to be accepted is that of not being able to charge a ticket. Personally, I am firmly convinced that projecting series on the big screen offers a very important cultural and social dimension, of great appeal not only for fans, but above all for all those who love seriality and the possibilities it offers. A proposal that was immediately grasped worldwide since, among others, in our official selection we have Netflix, Amazon, HBO Max, Disney +, BBC, France Television, Beta Film, ZDF, Paramount + and Peacock - Universal. Let's say that the solidity of the promoters and our own personal commitment at an international level have favoured us in putting together a programme that we believe will be original and interesting, but above all of value to the public and the industry insiders. Because our world is Showbusiness, a unique blend of industry and art.
