Sicily, 50 olive trees in the desert to heal climate wounds
Fifty olive trees in the 'desert of Sicily', between the Simeto Valley and the Calanchi di Cannizzola, near Centuripe, in the province of Enna.
An area that symbolises the wounds that climate change is inflicting on the land where desertification, abandonment of the countryside and water poverty are intertwined in a challenge that affects the entire country.
Baps (Banco agricolo popolare di Sicilia) has decided to take care of it, to restore fertility to a parched land, supporting a model of regenerative agriculture capable of combining environmental protection, innovation and social inclusion.
The initiative, realised in collaboration with the Lumacapizzi farm, represents a virtuous experiment in circular economy and rural renaissance.
The olive trees adopted by Baps are part of a larger project that aims to fight the so-called 'agricultural mafia', restoring dignity and productivity to confiscated or degraded land.
