The Bologna Festival, now in its 45th edition, opens with the only Italian date of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, on this European tour conducted by Simon Rattle. At Milan's Blue Note, an evening of Cuban music with the band Mercadonegro.
On the 29th at Teatro Manzoni the 45th Bologna Festival opens with the only Italian date of the European tour of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, conductor Simon Rattle. The programme includes Bartók with the "Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta", Busoni with the "Sarabande from Due studi per il Doktor Faust" and Brahms' Fourth Symphony. Founded in 1981, the ensemble was first mentored by Claudio Abbado; Rattle succeeded Abbado as head of the Berlin Philharmonic for sixteen years. Today he is the conductor of the Bavarian Radio Orchestra, one of Europe's largest.
The Festival continues until 27 October.
