The dossier on support for families is in the hands of the technicians for now. But for the government and the majority, alongside the cuts to the reinforced wedge, support measures for those with children are a priority of the labour chapter in the upcoming budget law.

"With such a strong denatality we cannot lose sight of supporting parenthood," is the thought of FdI senator, member of the Senate Labour Committee, Paola Mancini. Help could come from the savings of some labour measures for income support and training, which have 'pulled' less in recent months due to the increase in employment.

According to the very first calculations for thefamily package there could be available, but the conditional is obligatory, around one billion. Resources that would be used to make some improvements, and in some cases enhancements, to the interventions already on track.

Starting with the unique child benefit, which has also come under European scrutiny (in July Italy was referred to the EU Court for residence requirements), which in the modulation of the amounts is still not 'universal'.

With this in mind, the technicians are thinking of not having it weighed in the calculation Isee at least for large families. A move that would thus allow all families with three or more children to access other benefits (currently excluded because they require a lower Isee).

According to the latest Inps data, more than 6 million households with a total of 9,54,9571 children are benefiting from the single allowance.

Consideration is also being given to confirming the decontribution for working mothers with two children, which expires at the end of December (the one for workers with three or more children remains in force until the end of 2026). As of 30 June, more than 627,000 female workers (up to 250 euro per month) are benefiting from this relief (79% of the potential audience). Not only that. At the instigation of the Minister of Labour, Marina Calderone, the measure could also be extended to self-employed women, thus giving a sign of attention to the world of female professionals and VAT numbers.

A section of the majority is also pressing for an increase in thefringe benefit for those who have more children: today the rule provides for a ceiling of one thousand euro, which can be raised to two for those who have children. One would be thinking of making the amount more generous according to the number of children, but even in this case it will have to be understood from the Mef if there is the necessary funding.

Lastly, there is no shortage of good intentions on parental leave (in 2025 the second month's pay will return to 60 per cent of salary, raised to 80 per cent with the last Budget law) and on the childcare bonus. In particular, attempts are being made to broaden the audience reached by the latter measure's maximum quota, financed when fully operational and raised last year to EUR 3,600 per year for children after the first.

"It is the will of this executive to ask for the extension of some important welfare measures, such as aid for working mothers,'' concluded the MP and head of Forza Italia's Labour department, Chiara Tenerini. Collective bargaining and second-level bargaining will also be supported.
