Jannik Sinner advanced to the third round on the grass of Wimbledon by dominating Alexandar Vukic, 93rd in the Atp rankings: it ended 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 in one hour and 40 minutes.

After his debut against Luca Nardi (6-4, 6-3, 6-0), the world number one easily overcame the Australian (with whom he had played twice, beating him in both cases in two sets), who only managed to react in the third set, making the match more balanced, winning three break points and only giving up on the sixth match point. Now on Sinner's way on Saturday is the Spaniard Pedro Martinez, who got the better of Mariano Navone.

The other Italians in the race.

It was a positive day for the Azzurri, apart from Lucia Bronzetti's loss to the fearsome Mirra Andreeva (6-1, 7-6). Luciano Darderi did well as he closed the accounts in three sets against Britain's Arthur Fery. Flavio Cobolli was also ahead: he overcame Britain's Jack Pinnington Jones 6-1, 7-6, 6-2 and will now face Jakub Mensik. Lorenzo Sonego won against that Basilashvili who had eliminated Lorenzo Musetti: third round for him too, against Brandon Nakashima. In the women's draw, Elisabetta Cocciaretto's run continues: after her feat against Jessica Pegula, the number 3 seed, she won clearly against the American Katie Volynets 6-0, 6-4. Now it's Belinda Bencic.

Draper and Paul out

Even today at Church Road there was no shortage of surprises, starting with the defeat of home favourite Jack Draper, world number 4, who lost to Croatian Marin Cilic (class of 1988) in four sets. Also unexpected was the elimination of Tommy Paul, beaten by Austrian Sebastian Ofner. These results are in addition to the resounding ones of the past few days, in which Medvedev (at the hands of Frenchman Bonzi, number 64 in the ranking), Rune (victim of the always tenacious Jarry), Zverev (beaten by Frenchman Rinderknech), and Bublick, champion in Halle (defeated by Spaniard Jaume Munar), all left the tournament. Unexpected setback also for Jasmine Paolini, defeated by Russian Kamilla Rachimova. Unexpected as much as clear-cut was Mattia Bellucci's three-set victory over world number 25 Jiri Lehecka 7-6, 6-1, 7-5: it was the first time in the third round of a Slam for the Busto Arsizio tennis player, who will face Cameron Norrie.
