Sinner wins the Beijing tournament in two sets against American Tien. Now Shanghai awaits him
Yesterday, world number one and Sinner's great opponent, Carlos Alcaraz, won his eighth tournament in Tokyo in this 2025 season
Jannik Sinner returns to winning a tournament after losing the final at the Us Open. The world number 2 won the Atp 500 in Beijing, defeating the American Learner Tien in the final with a score of 6-2, 6-2 in one hour and 12 minutes, and took home his third title of the season after the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
It was a match without history in the last act of the Chinese tournament: the American felt the fatigue of the last challenges, first and foremost of the semi-final against Medvedev, while the number 2 was lucid and precise and left few openings to the timid initiatives of his opponent right from the first games.
The match opened with a double fault by the American, anticipating the overall course of the challenge. Tien was often inaccurate, did not hit his serve and struggled to hit convincing first serves. Sinner is at ease, immediately finds the break by extending the exchanges and repeats in the fifth game, breaking his service game with only 15 conceded to his opponent and an applauding exchange closed with a smash. The sixth game is the first one closed with advantages, but after a slight drop Sinner picks up the pace and closes with two aces. Thirty-four minutes were enough to secure the first partial, sealed at 6-2.
The second set began with a burst of pride from Tien, who held serve for the first time and reached the break point. Sinner, however, was impeccable, reacting brilliantly and in the most delicate moment of the match hiding the ball from his opponent. Game closed with a first at 210 km/h and an ace. Jannik raised the level again as the minutes passed and extinguished the American's blaze, snatching the first break in the fifth, thanks to a game badly set by Tien, author of two double faults (one on the break ball). The second partial slipped away in 38 minutes and Jannik closed it out dominating, with another 6-2. For him it is the second success in Beijing and the 21st title of his career. Now Shanghai awaits him.
Alcaraz conquers Tokyo
Yesterday, world number one and Sinner's great opponent Carlos Alcaraz won his eighth tournament in Tokyo. In Japan, the Iberian champion did not dominate (with the exception of the quarters against Nakashima), he conceded a few points on the way, but in the end the title was his: he defeated a weakened Taylor Fritz in the final with 6-4 6-4 in one hour and 33 minutes of play. He is the sixth tennis player since 2000 to win at least eight trophies in a single season: like him the Fab Four (Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray) and Jannik Sinner. And it is precisely with the Italian that the (long-distance) challenge for the top of the ranking continues.
