Excavators, bulldozers, shovels and even cranes. All can be used in a virtual reality classroom, in different weather, light and conditions. With great time and cost savings and a significant increase in safety. This is Vortex advantage, the new simulator for the training of workers inaugurated a few days ago at the Via Newton 3 headquarters in Milan of Esem-Cpt, the bilateral body for training and safety in the construction industry in the provinces of Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza.

It is an instrument equipped with six screens, built by Cm Labs, a Canadian company, and distributed in Europe by St Engineering Antycip. The one in the Lombard capital, located in the Virtual building site, is the only one with such features in Europe.

A revolution in the field of education and training that uses so-called 'serious games', the serious games already adopted in the training of safety officers on construction sites: an interactive virtual experience that aims to achieve predetermined learning objectives, through the activation of playful dynamics, alongside traditional methodologies, to train new generations of safety officers in an innovative way.

The six-screen simulator uses a virtual reality system with a faithful reproduction of machine movements with professional-level controls and seating. This is not the first time a system of this type has been used: a three-screen simulator had already been adopted by the organisation and used since 2020 as a training tool for operators of construction machinery and cranes.

This tool allows a significant reduction in costs. The use of a single tool capable of virtually reproducing the characteristics of multiple vehicles means less use of fuel, zero wear and tear, and low maintenance, all to the benefit of improved operator learning levels.

Esem-Cpt President Luca Cazzaniga explains: "The digital transition, which has been underway for some time now, must be supported and above all spread. We do this by completing the training of old and new operators through the simulation of complex work environments, such as the construction site, to make operations and training safe and efficient. We think that connecting people, training processes and work environments with effective and appealing tools is a winning formula and above all safe".

Esem-Cpt Vice-President Salvatore Cutaia adds: "Learning and skill development reach unique levels of immersiveness: with levels of difficulty of operations, changing possible scenarios, tracking and monitoring improvements, and all this in safe conditions with zero risk for operators. We try to use technologies and tools that are more and more appealing to young people. Our goal is to speak a language that is understandable to the new generations that we hope will approach the construction world, which is increasingly ready to welcome them both in terms of employment and professional growth".
