Excavators, bulldozers, shovels and even cranes. All can be used in a virtual reality classroom, in different weather, light and conditions. With great time and cost savings and a significant increase in safety. This is Vortex advantage, the new simulator for the training of workers inaugurated a few days ago at the Via Newton 3 headquarters in Milan of Esem-Cpt, the bilateral body for training and safety in the construction industry in the provinces of Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza.
It is an instrument equipped with six screens, built by Cm Labs, a Canadian company, and distributed in Europe by St Engineering Antycip. The one in the Lombard capital, located in the Virtual building site, is the only one with such features in Europe.
A revolution in the field of education and training that uses so-called 'serious games', the serious games already adopted in the training of safety officers on construction sites: an interactive virtual experience that aims to achieve predetermined learning objectives, through the activation of playful dynamics, alongside traditional methodologies, to train new generations of safety officers in an innovative way.
The six-screen simulator uses a virtual reality system with a faithful reproduction of machine movements with professional-level controls and seating. This is not the first time a system of this type has been used: a three-screen simulator had already been adopted by the organisation and used since 2020 as a training tool for operators of construction machinery and cranes.
This tool allows a significant reduction in costs. The use of a single tool capable of virtually reproducing the characteristics of multiple vehicles means less use of fuel, zero wear and tear, and low maintenance, all to the benefit of improved operator learning levels.
