At the Munich Motor Show, which opens on 9 September, Škoda will present the Vision O, a concept car anticipating its first fully electric station wagon. A model that, in terms of style and proportions, closely resembles the iconic Octavia Combi, but with a zero-emission soul.
The teaser campaign got into full swing with shadowy images showing first the profile and now the three-quarter-length front of the new station wagon. Streamlined and dynamic lines, almost like a fastback saloon, suggest a design oriented towards aerodynamics and thus improved range.
Since 1998, when the first modern Octavia Wagon was launched, Škoda has sold over three million units in four generations. The new electric version will not replace the thermal version, however: the combustion Octavia Combi will remain in the range, alongside the battery-powered variant. A pragmatic choice, in a market where sales of electric cars are not yet sufficient to say goodbye to traditional engines.
Presented as a concept very close to production reality, the Vision O is expected to arrive on the market in 2026. The dimensions will be typical of a C-segment wagon, but with the efficiency of an electric powertrain capable of taking on the fiercest European competition.
Direct rivals include the Peugeot E-308 SW (coming with a mid-career restyling) and the future MG4 station wagon, destined to replace the MG5. There is no shortage of higher-end competitors, however, such as the BMW i5 Touring and Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer, which raise the bar in terms of technology and comfort.
