Sky Wifi exceeds 90% of homes: agreement with Fibercop and 3 million more households covered
New wholesale agreement strengthens Sky's presence in ultrabroadband. The group consolidates its role as the fourth national operator and flanks network expansion with a new campaign featuring Del Piero and Jake La Furia
Sky accelerates on the connectivity front and strengthens its position in the ultrabroadband market. With a new wholesale agreement signed with Fibercop - in addition to the agreements already in place with Open Fiber and Fastweb - Sky Wifi's coverage now exceeds 90% of Italian homes. In concrete terms, the operation brings an additional 3 million households reachable by the group's offer.
The figure marks a significant step in a strategy launched almost six years ago and oriented towards integrating content and infrastructure. Sky Wifi, according to the latest data from Agcom's Communications Observatory, at the end of September was the fourth national operator, positioning itself - with a 4.3% share in broadband and ultrabroadband accesses - immediately behind the main historic operators: Tim at 33%; Fastweb+Vodafone at 29.8% and Wind Tre at 14.6%. This result is a snapshot of Sky's evolution from a player focused on content to an operator capable of also presiding over the network access segment.
The expansion of coverage and the strengthening of the commercial presence therefore confirm a precise trajectory: to preside over the entertainment value chain also on the infrastructural side, in a market where the quality of the connection is an increasingly decisive factor for competitiveness.
In this scenario, relying on wholesale companies allows Sky to rapidly extend its presence without directly bearing the burden of network development, by leveraging partnerships with infrastructure operators.
Alongside the industrial lever, the group also activates the commercial and communication one. In fact, a new Sky Wifi and Sky TV campaign is starting, still set at Alessandro Del Piero's house, with the participation of Jake La Furia. The format aims at enhancing, with a light register, the quality of the connection and the integration with the contents, underlining the role of the fibre "optimised for streaming" in the fruition of the audiovisual offer.
