Intended for construction sites in France, the supply and installation work is expected to result in deliveries and economic benefits between 2028 and 2040
Key points
New contracts worth a total of over 119 million euros in the field of glazing for the maritime sector (design, manufacture and installation of glazing systems and associated support structures for ships, built to withstand the stresses and conditions of the marine environment) for Somec, Spa, based in San Vendemiano, Treviso, which specialises in the design, manufacture and installation of complex turnkey projects in the civil and naval sectors,
The sales assistant
Specifically, this involves the supply of glazing systems and architectural components for a new series of cruise ships currently under construction at a French shipyard.
The agreement, which will benefit the Horizons division – specialising in engineered naval architecture and civil façade systems – covers two naval vessels, with options for further vessels. The supply and installation work will take place over a period of several years, with deliveries and economic benefits expected between 2028 and 2040.
The orders – the company states – form part of a next-generation programme that focuses on the evolution of naval architecture and the quality of the on-board experience. Featuring a unique silhouette, the new vessels – destined for one of the leading international cruise lines – will require solutions capable of combining design freedom, visual continuity between interior and exterior spaces, safety and energy efficiency. In this context, Somec will contribute to defining the architectural envelope of the ships through an integrated set of glazing systems and balcony components, designed to meet the technical and aesthetic requirements of the new series.
Technology and design
The orders also include the supply of AVSW (Automatic Vertical Sliding Windows) systems, solutions automated vertical sliding glazing systems that allow the opening of the surfaces to be adjusted transparent surfaces, promoting continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces and enhancing the direct connection with the sea. In this way, the systems contribute to a more versatile approach to on-board spaces, combining technology and design to enhance the passenger experience.
