Spain: floating containment barriers now in place off the Tarajal quay in Ceuta
The presence of the security forces and the armed forces has been stepped up to nearly 3,000 officers and soldiers, who will remain in Ceuta “for as long as necessary”.
The floating barriers off the Tarajal pier in Ceuta, designed to prevent migrants arriving by swimming from gaining access, are “fully operational”.
The announcement was made by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior. In a statement released via its official channels, the ministry, led by Fernando Grande-Marlaska, clarified that the Civil Guard ensures the permanent protection of these barriers along the middle navigation channel.
Furthermore, the Ministry emphasised that the Civil Guard also carries out the maintenance and upkeep work necessary to ensure the infrastructure functions properly.
The barriers were installed on Saturday in the El Tarajal border area, where the Civil Guard maintains a permanent surveillance and control operation.
According to a statement made this morning by the Government’s representative in Ceuta, Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano, the presence of the security forces and the armed forces has been reinforced to reach almost 3,000 officers and military personnel, who will remain in Ceuta “for as long as necessary”.
