Spain generated almost 60 per cent of its electricity from renewable sources in the first half of 2024, thanks to new capacity from solar energy and increased output from hydroelectric power plants. This is revealed by data provided by grid operator Redeia.
Last year renewables accounted for 51% of the total.
Wind farms generated 24.4 per cent of the total, compared to 24.1 per cent in the previous year, Redeia said in a statement.
Solar power plants generated 16.3 per cent of the total, compared to 13.8 per cent, while hydroelectric plants accounted for 15.9 per cent, compared to 9.8 per cent.
Spain aims to generate four-fifths of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, according to a government plan published last year.
