Sport, 100 million to build and regenerate facilities: when and how to apply
Seventy million euros will be spent to regenerate old sports facilities and thirty to create new ones
Key points
Seventy million euros to regenerate old sports facilities and thirty to create new ones. These are the funds made available in the 'sport and suburbs 2026' announcement, published by the Department of Sport. The intent, it says, is 'to promote the development of sports infrastructures and foster social inclusion, wellbeing and cohesion in local communities'.
The co-financing requested from municipalities
The notice is addressed to Italian municipalities that meet the indicated requirements and offers differentiated solutions based on the needs of the local authorities. In any case, a co-financing share to be borne by the applicant municipality of at least 15% of the grant requested if it exceeds one million euro and at least 10% of the grant requested if it is less than one million.
When to apply
The call for applications has only been announced at the moment. Applications can be submitted in June, specifically from 12 noon on 4 June 2026 until 12 noon on 25 June 2026. To do so, you will have to log onto the platform https://avvisibandi.sport.governo.it/.
Abodi: "1.7 billion in three years"
Sports Minister Andrea Abodi did the maths by saying that 'the government has invested in the three and a half years of its term of office 1.7 billion euro for the benefit of public sports infrastructures while enhancing the search for talent and sports competitiveness, and the psycho-physical well-being of citizens of all ages, starting with the youngest'.
In general, he explained, the interventions will be used 'for the construction of new multi-purpose and low environmental impact sports halls, for the demolition/reconstruction of entire sports facilities, for safety/reduction of architectural barriers and earthquake-proof adaptation, including the supply of sports equipment necessary for the facilities, as well as for works aimed at energy efficiency and retrofitting'.
