Sport: Giovanni Malagò appointed as the new president of the Italian Football Federation
Giovanni Malagò, former president of the Italian National Olympic Committee and president of the organising committee for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Games, is the new president of the Italian Football Federation. This has been announced by the FIGC. He succeeds Gabriele Gravina, who resigned in April after eight years in office, following the men’s national team’s failure to qualify for the World Cup currently being held in the US, Mexico and Canada.
Malagò secured 68.58% of the votes, whilst the other candidate, Giancarlo Abete, received 29.17% of the votes. The election meeting took place today in Rome.
“On my own, I can’t do anything – Malagò’s first words after his announcement in front of the 266 delegates – but with you, I can do anything.”
