It seems that companies increasingly need employees with the ability to work in a team and who do not allow themselves to be overwhelmed by stress. Who, then, better than a former athlete could possess these characteristics? It is perhaps in response to this question that Gi Group Holding , an Italian multinational labour company, and the Coni signed a memorandum of understanding on 27 May called Match Point: a link between the world of sport and the 'traditional' labour market.
The 'end' of the athletes' careers
.Re-entering the labour market has always been one of the main unknowns for those reaching the end of their sporting career. In football, for example, according to research by the Associazione italiana calciatori (Aic), only 7% of athletes find a job in sport once they leave the field. However, the soft skills acquired through competitive practice, such as the ability to work in a team or stress tolerance, can also represent added value in the 'after' and are increasingly in demand by organisations.
The project
.The Gi Group Holding and Coni project thus aims to support the career transition of sportswomen and sportsmen by accompanying them in the construction of a new career path, beyond the sporting dimension. Free of charge and free of charge, it will operate in a logic that embraces all the Federations and disciplines associated with Coni, thus extending the previous initiative of the same name by Gi Group Holding realised with the athletes' associations. The memorandum of understanding was signed by Francesco Baroni, Country manager of Gi Group Holding Italia, and Giovanni Malagò, President of Coni (Italian National Olympic Committee).
The Operation
.Under the terms of the collaboration, the Coni will provide communication and promotion of the project to athletes and former athletes of all Federations. Gi Group Holding, in turn, through its group companies, will deploy its consultancy, matching, orientation, training and job placement services to facilitate the transition and encourage the matching of supply and demand.
Any athlete wishing to join the project will be able to apply through the dedicated page on the gigroup.it website (available in the coming months) where it will also be possible to view the training and work opportunities with Match Point member companies and actively apply.
