Spotify, the leading global music streaming platform, has built its growth on premium customers, those who pay to have the music they listen to. With all the positive effects this has had on the music industry, which, globally, posted its tenth consecutive year of growth in 2024. But also advertising revenues - those of the adverts aimed at Free customers - evidently have their own weight for the former Swedish start-up. And so that Free customers also get to choose their own song.

The "Choose and Listen" function

.

Three new features have been introduced, according to Spotify's official note: 'Choose and listen: Is there a tune that won't go out of your head? By pressing play in the Spotify app, you can choose and listen to any song you want; Search and listen: by typing in your favourite track, you start listening to it instantly; Share and listen: if you want to share your favourite tracks with friends or if an artist has shared a new track you want to hear on social, just click to listen to it right away'.

New for playlists

.

You can listen to your favourite songs for free via customised playlists, editorial playlists curated by our in-house music experts or by creating your own playlists. Simply select the desired title, then choose a few songs to add. Meanwhile, the platform will start recommending tracks for you to add. And here's the kicker: the more music and podcasts you listen to, the more Spotify can customise recommendations to help you discover even more tracks, artists and podcasts.

What's more, you can design your own playlist cover on Spotify. In 128 markets Spotify allows you to add a personal touch to your playlist covers with images, colours, text effects and graphics. Simply log into the mobile app and select a playlist you have created to get started. Then tap on the menu with the three dots and choose 'Create cover art'.

The Daylist Tips

.

As you develop your daily listening habits on Spotify, you can discover the most suitable music for each time of day thanks to the Daylist. This playlist includes and reflects the genres of music you like to listen to at certain times of the day or on specific days of the week. Users of the free version worldwide will see their Daylists updated regularly with different tracks and titles.

Finally, there is Discover Weekly, a feature that offers an updated mix of personalised recommendations each week based on what you've been listening to. And there's also Release Radar, which offers the latest news from the artists you follow.
