(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - S.S. Lazio is in the spotlight on the Milan Stock Exchange on the day its president, Claudio Lotito, published a long open letter to fans in the pages of Il Messaggero to reopen dialogue and usher in a new era for the club. The club has also denied rumours regarding an imminent sale. At the start of trading, the share price rose by over 8%, before paring gains to settle at €1.70 (+3.7%).
Looking back, since 11 May, the shares have risen by more than 22%. The year-to-date performance remains positive at almost 40%, despite disappointing results on the pitch. Lazio finished the Serie A season in ninth place, a result that led to the departure of manager Maurizio Sarri and heightened tensions between the club’s management and the fans. In recent days, some groups of supporters have even threatened not to renew their season tickets for the Stadio Olimpico. Also in recent days, particularly in Rome, rumours have intensified regarding a possible sale of the club. However, the club has categorically denied these rumours in an official statement. “No negotiations are currently underway regarding the sale of the club and no agreements, understandings or commitments of any kind have been signed relating to the transfer, in whole or in part, of the club’s ownership,” SS Lazio stated. The club also clarified that the owners have not authorised any mandate for the sale and have not entered into any discussions aimed at transactions of this kind.
The club has finally announced that it has submitted a report to the relevant supervisory authorities to investigate the circulation of information lacking objective evidence and its potential impact on the proper functioning of the market.
In the letter published by *Il Messaggero*, Lotito called on the fans to engage in dialogue and reconciliation. The president also stated that he wanted to build “a stronger and more competitive Lazio” in order to return to winning ways, whilst at the same time denying rumours of a sale to investment funds. The priority, he explained, remains to ensure a financially sound club, free from debt and capable of maintaining its credibility and independence over time.
