St: launches new compact 3D LiDAR module for spatial mapping
STMicroelectronics today announced the launch of the VL53L9, an all-in-one 3D LiDAR module featuring direct Time-of-Flight technology that sets a new benchmark in high-resolution sensing. The VL53L9 combines cutting-edge functionality in a compact and cost-effective module, capable of providing ready-to-use data for edge AI systems with low computational requirements integrated into small microcontrollers, and high-performance sensing capabilities for a wide range of applications, such as robotics, industrial automation, smart buildings, augmented and virtual reality technologies, and healthcare. “The VL53L9 demonstrates just how far Time-of-Flight sensing technology has evolved, combining high-resolution depth data—at up to 100 frames per second—with a fully integrated architecture within a single compact module. By simplifying integration and reducing system complexity, we enable customers to accelerate the development of applications in fields such as robotics, smart infrastructure and health monitoring,” said Alexandre Balmefrezol, executive vice president and general manager of STMicroelectronics’ Imaging sub-group, in a statement. “This launch reflects our strategy of moving beyond stand-alone sensors to provide integrated sensing systems that support artificial intelligence at the edge in the real world,” he said.
