Stabbed in Milan; the attacker said: ‘I enjoyed it – as soon as I get out, I’ll do it again’
Gerardo P., aged 55, was attacked whilst having breakfast in a café. He has been admitted to Niguarda Hospital and his life is not in danger. Salvini: “If he enjoyed it and would do it again, he should never be released from prison.”
“I enjoyed myself; as soon as I get out, I’ll do it again”: this is what Lamin Saidilly, 22, told the police who arrested him yesterday, Saturday 4 July, after he stabbed a stranger in a bar in Milan. According to the indictment, “with his head covered by a black balaclava and without uttering a single word”, he attacked the victim “from behind, with a 21-centimetre knife, striking him 20 times” on the head, neck, chest and abdomen. Prosecutor Elio Ramondini has submitted a request to the investigating magistrate to validate the arrest on charges of attempted murder, considering that there is a risk of the suspect absconding and of reoffending. Saidilly, born in Conegliano Veneto (Treviso), is due to be questioned tomorrow morning, Monday 6 July, by investigating magistrate Luigi Iannelli at San Vittore prison.
Man stabbed, not in a life-threatening condition
Gerardo P, aged 55, who was attacked by Saidilly whilst having breakfast with his father, is no longer in a life-threatening condition and is currently being treated at Niguarda Hospital. The man underwent several operations last night and this morning and is now in the post-operative intensive care unit, but his condition is improving. The stab wounds he sustained, particularly to the abdomen and chest, were not particularly deep. His condition remains serious but is expected to have no long-term consequences, and his hospital stay is not expected to be lengthy.
The prosecutor: ‘He had planned to kill an easy target’
The Milan public prosecutor has charged Saidilly with attempted murder, aggravated by premeditation and trivial motives. This is evident from the application for the arrest to be upheld. Based on the reconstruction of events so far, it is believed that the man planned to go out onto the street to ‘cause the death’ of the first person who might be an easy target. Indeed, he was wearing a disguise and was carrying a knife “with a double-edged blade measuring 21 centimetres in total length”. As for the trivial motives, these relate solely to what he said: “I enjoyed it; as soon as I get out, I’ll do it again”.
Salvini: ‘If he were to do it again, he’d never leave prison’
“Shocking words. Did he enjoy it and would he do it again? Well then, let him never leave prison!” This was the comment posted on social media by Deputy Prime Minister and League leader Matteo Salvini, in response to what 22-year-old Lamin Saidilly told the police who arrested him yesterday following the stabbing in Milan.
