(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - Regione Lombardia's commitment to innovative start-ups continues. Prompted by the regional councillor for Economic Development, Guido Guidesi, the Region promotes and supports the Startup Competitions, a series of competitions designed to facilitate the growth of the most promising start-ups and put them in contact with potential investors. Together with Musa - Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action (Lombardy's university system) and Federated Innovation @Mind (an innovation incubator), three competitions will be offered: 'StartCup Lombardia', 'Chimica Verde Lombardia per un futuro sostenibile' and the novelty 'Edilizia sostenibile e sicura'. The Startup Competitions are part of the 'Startup Days' project: a strategic annual appointment, scheduled for 11 and 12 November, aimed at strengthening Lombardy's innovation ecosystem, creating connections between talents, ideas and opportunities to build the territory's future and generate added value, also from an employment point of view.

Guidesi: 'Lombardy confirms itself as a House of Ideas'

.

"Our aim has always been that anyone with an innovative idea should find the best conditions for developing it in Lombardy. Even through initiatives such as the 'Start Up Days' we try to support and ground winning ideas by transforming them into inducements and job opportunities," said Guidesi, adding that "we are the leading region in terms of the number of innovative start-ups. And we want not only to continue to be so, but to consolidate this leadership in order to continue to be the Home of Ideas. Innovation and being ahead of the times will continue to be our trump cards'.

"StartCup Lombardia", now in its 23rd edition, is the competition for start-ups organised by Lombardy's Universities and University Incubators, promoted by Regione Lombardia and Musa, which since 2016 has seen the birth of 44 companies with a total regional investment of €1.2 million and €52 million in cumulative investment raised by the start-ups. The total prize money, higher than the previous edition, is €175,000 allocated by Regione Lombardia. In the 2024 edition, the initiative collected 114 applications, for a total of 373 people involved and 155,000 euro of allocated funds.

The objective of the 'Sustainable and Safe Construction' award, a new feature this year organised by the Lombardy Region in collaboration with universities, Lombardy University Incubators and Musa, is to encourage the creation of new enterprises and start-ups in the construction sector in order to support their innovation and development in response to the specific needs of the companies operating in it. Regione Lombardia will provide a prize fund of 150,000 euro for the best six competing ideas.

The second edition of the 'Green Chemistry Lombardy for a Sustainable Future' programme is organised by the Lombardy Region and Federated Innovation @Mind to stimulate the emergence of innovative companies that support players in the chemical industry in tackling technological and environmental challenges. Six prizes are envisaged for a total prize fund of EUR 150,000 allocated by the Lombardy Region.

Important to create a business ecosystem

"We are happy to kick off the second edition of the Chimica Verde Lombardia competition promoted by Federated Innovation @Mind together with Regione Lombardia. This project confirms the value of co-innovation as a strategic lever to tackle environmental and industrial challenges. Networking start-ups, companies and research centres means building an ecosystem capable of generating real and lasting impact. Sustainable chemistry is a pillar for the competitiveness of our territory and a concrete opportunity to attract talent, technology and capital,' said Fabrizio Grillo, president of Federated Innovation @Mind.

"The Startup Days represent a fundamental element in the development strategy of the Lombardy innovation ecosystem. As Musa, we consider it a priority to support the birth and growth of new enterprises capable of generating a concrete social, economic and environmental impact. Favouring the encounter between research, enterprise and institutions means creating the conditions for sustainable and inclusive development, capable of responding to the challenges of the present and responsibly building the future of our territory,' commented Marina Canovaro, president of Musa, Multilayered Urban Sustainability Action.
