It could become easier for civil servants to remain in service after reaching the age of 67: according to the Messaggero newspaper, once they have reached the age for old age retirement (67), they will be able to decide to stay at work without submitting a request to remain in service. In practice, retention would be automatic unless a request to leave is submitted. At present, on the other hand, it is automatic to leave once the age is reached and it is up to the employee to eventually ask his or her administration to continue working (with the possibility of the administration rejecting the request).

According to the Rome daily, the government is working on the hypothesis in view of the high number of exits expected due to reaching old age or the requirements for early retirement.
