Assets worth EUR 714 million were subtracted from financial crime. In addition, four tonnes of drugs were also seized. In 39 seizures, following requests for asset prevention measures, a further 31.5 million euro were blocked and in 56 confiscations, 76 million were seized. In addition, mafia organisations have been reached by ablatory measures for more than 90 million euro. These are just some of the numbers compiled by the official magazine PoliziaModerna on the occasion of the 173rd anniversary celebration of the State Police. A detailed balance sheet recounting one year of activity, 2024, of the 97,931 police officers on duty, (80,625 men and 17,306 women) to guarantee security in the Italian provinces.
Approximately 20,000 police officers on duty at the Volanti, Crime Prevention Units and Operational Units of First Intervention (Uopi) patrolled the territory. The controls on the territory involved approximately four million people, 47,293 reported and 8,602 arrested. The Operations Rooms of the Italian Police Headquarters handled 4,351,509 calls, for a total of 1,244,664 interventions carried out by the crews on duty with cars and motorbikes.
The activities carried out by the mobile squads and investigative sections of the Central Operations Service of the State Police led to the arrest of 1,542 people in 111 operations, the capture of 35 fugitives and, as mentioned, the seizure of organised crime assets worth EUR 714 million and four tonnes of drugs.
In 2024, thanks to the support provided by the Central Anti-Crime Service to the Anti-Crime Divisions of the Police Headquarters, the issuance by the Questors of personal prevention measures increased by 40% for Daspo and by 30% for cautioning for persecutory acts. Special surveillance proposals forwarded by the Questors to the Courts increased by 29%.
Police officers of the Digos engaged in preventing and combating terrorism arrested 23 people and repatriated 82 others because they were considered dangerous to state security. With regard to the fight against domestic terrorism, 15 people were arrested and 506 reported, 36 right-wing and left-wing extremists were arrested. The Digos fan squads, on the other hand, arrested 115 supporters and reported 1,721 individuals last year.
