Stellantis, 400 hires at Mirafiori, unions call for more on Italy Plan
A meeting in Turin between CEO Antonio Filosa and the trade unions calling for the strengthening of the industrial mission of the Group's Italian plants
Four hundred new hires at Mirafiori to produce the Fiat 500 hybrid, with two shifts starting in February next year, and maximum attention to the Italy Plan, starting with the production of the new Jeep Compass at Melfi and the 500 hybrid at Mirafiori. Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa anticipated some of the actions that the Group will take on the Italian industrial fabric during the meeting with the trade unions in Turin.
The Group's number one reiterated the need to revise the European regulations, which do not take due account of the market reality and the industrial context. "This is a collective goal," emphasised Filosa, who asked for the support of the workers' representatives.
The Stellantis number one 'firmly' reiterated his commitment to Italy and supported the Italy Plan as a solid programme. But the trade unions called for the industrial plan for the Italian plants to be strengthened, as underlined by Fim secretary Ferdinando Uliano, while Fiom spoke of a serious situation for the Group's Italian plants.
During the meeting, CEO Filosa assured that a decision on Termoli and the Gigafactory will come by the end of the year, and also announced a partnership with Comau - a historic Italian company in which Stellantis retains a minority stake - on the robot development front.
The EU moves
Precisely on the day on which Ursula Von der Leyen confirms the review by the end of the year of the regulation of the car sector, a regulation that envisages a stop to internal combustion engines by 2035, and reopens the use of biofuels, the CEO of Stellantis returns to reiterate what is needed for the sector: technological neutrality, measures to renew the car fleet, support for the city ca segment and a review of the targets on commercial vehicles.
