Stellantis, Cappellano: ‘Five billion euros to be invested in research in Italy by 2030’
The automotive group’s head of European operations meets with the trade unions: ‘A €60 billion plan for sustainable growth’
Stellantis will invest €5 billion in Italia by 2030 to drive innovation. This was announced by Emanuele Cappellano, the automotive group’s head of European operations, during a meeting with trade unions in Rome. Cappellano explained that the funds will be used for technologies related to new platforms, artificial intelligence and powertrains.
“Our five-year strategic plan FaSTLAne 2030 was created with a very clear objective: to guide Stellantis towards a sustainable and profitable growth”, said Emanuele Cappellano.
“We’re talking,” he added, “about over €60 billion in global investment: around 60% earmarked for brands and products, and the remaining 40% for global platforms and new technologies. Investments that will enable us to simplify architectures, increase scalability and offer customers in every region increasingly tailored mobility solutions.
“Our commitments to Italia are concrete, structural and long-term: innovation, employment and the development of skills are the pillars on which we are building a new phase of growth. We are doing our bit. With discipline, investment and a long-term vision. And we will continue to do so,” continued Cappellano. “Our plan is clear. It is bold. And it is ambitious. The initial signs are positive, but we are well aware that the challenges are not yet behind us. This is why it is essential to create the conditions for sustainable long-term growth: we need competitiveness and realistic rules geared towards industrial development.”
The new strategic plan represents “a natural and even more ambitious evolution of the path already embarked upon with the ‘Piano Italia’, confirming and reinforcing all the commitments we have made. It demonstrates in concrete terms how Stellantis combines local roots with a global reach. The commitments of the Italia Plan have been upheld and, in many cases, exceeded.” The Italia Plan “will be stronger with FaSTLAne 2030 and with a clear vision: our country will be the production hub for small cars in Mirafiori and Pomigliano, for mid-to-high-end and luxury cars in Melfi, Cassino and Modena, and for commercial vehicles in Atessa.”
