Stellantis, the hunt for partnerships continues: after the Chinese, a pact with Jaguar Land Rover's rivals in the US is under consideration

Stellantis and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for product development collaboration in the US.

According to the terms of the non-binding MoU, the two companies,' reads a note, 'will evaluate possible synergies in the development of products and technologies, leveraging each company's complementary competencies to create value for both organisations'. Obviously, from what has been stated, the contours of the agreement appear unclear, it being understood that Stellantis' main brand, Jeep, is Land Rover's historic rival.

The announcement comes on the heels of the signing of another non-binding Memorandum of Understanding with DongFeng, and it is peculiar that all these agreements, which are nothing more than mere expressions of intent, come just hours before the industrial plan that CEO Antonio Filosa will explain on 21 May in Detroit. The Dongfeng Memorandum assumes to further expand their 34-year partnership, with plans to create a European-based joint venture for the sales, distribution, manufacturing, purchasing and engineering of Dongfeng's New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), with an initial focus on selected markets in Europe.

As part of the project, the partners intend to establish a new European-based joint venture, led by Stellantis and 51:49 owned. The new entity would manage the sales and distribution of Dongfeng's premium Voyah-branded NEVs in selected European markets, leveraging Stellantis' strong network and after-sales expertise. The new entity will also include joint purchasing and engineering activities, enhancing Dongfeng's highly competitive Chinese new energy vehicle ecosystem.
