Stellantis, e-cars will be produced in Pomigliano from 2028
The Group's top management anticipated the guidelines for relaunching production in Italia - Filosa: 'Customers are asking for a return to small cars'
Only a few hours after the presentation of the Industrial Plan in Detroit, with an urgent summons to the trade unions in the morning, the top management of Stellantis anticipates the guidelines for the production relaunch of the Italian plants. At the heart of the plan is the E-Car project, for the production of small, compact, innovative and affordable electric cars.
The E-Car 'represents a concept deeply rooted in the European DNA of Stellantis, in continuity with the successful tradition of compact cars,' emphasised Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa, commenting on the project's launch. 'Customers,' he added, 'are demanding the return of small cars with a distinctive design, proudly produced in Europe, affordable and environmentally friendly. Stellantis responds to this demand with exciting models for different brands'.
The first E-Cars are scheduled to roll off the production lines in 2028 at the Pomigliano d'Arco plant. Stellantis' E-Car models 'will be equipped with high-end Bev technologies, developed in cooperation with selected partners to ensure greater affordability and accelerate time-to-market, the company announces.
This high-potential segment, intended to be produced in Europe and destined for the domestic market, has been recognised by the European Commission for its ability to support employment in the automotive sector, from production to design, and represents the European answer to a twofold problem: containing competition from Chinese players and meeting market demand for sustainable and affordable models.
With the awarding of the E-Car to Pomigliano, is the company's reflection, which speaks of 'significant volumes', Stellantis enhances the tradition of Italian industry that has always been dedicated to the mass market and the production of popular cars, such as the Fiat Panda, which is now the leading model, in terms of production and sales volumes, in Italia, historically produced in Campania.
