(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor)- The Stellantis jumped at Piazza Affari, following the July registration figures released by Acea. Despite the fact that the group led by Antonio Filosa recorded a 1.1% drop in registrations (against a +5.9% increase in the European market), the figure - observed the analysts of Intermonte - "shows an improvement compared to previous months, benefiting from the new launches of Alfa Romeo and Peugeot", even if it remains below the experts' estimates, which see a 6% growth in the second half of the year. Since the beginning of the year, the group created by the merger between Fca and Psa has recorded 1,192,746 registrations, down 8.1% compared to the same period a year ago. Market share dropped to 15.1% from 16.4%. In the EU alone, Stellantis registrations in July were 135,992 (-0.9%), with market share at 14.9% from 16.1%. From January to July, the group registered 1,047,094 units in the EU, down 9.9% year-on-year, with share at 16.1% from 17.8%.

Acea also sent a letter to the European Commission arguing that the emission targets set for 2035 (100 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions for new cars) are unachievable under current conditions due, above all, to the strong dependence on Asia for battery supply, the insufficient development of recharging infrastructure, tariffs introduced by the US, and growing competition from Chinese manufacturers. "The letter confirms the position, already expressed in recent months, of the automotive industry: the targets to 2035 are now considered 'impossible' to achieve without a substantial revision," they write from Intermonte. "In light of the growing political support for greater flexibility, we believe that there is scope for a revision of the targets, although the timing of the process may not prove short, thus maintaining an element of uncertainty in the industry's strategic planning," the experts conclude.
