Stellantis recalls 700,000 48-volt hybrid cars due to potential fire risk. Here are the models affected
These are 48Volt mildi hybrid models of the Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands
Stellantis is recalling 700,000 hybrid vehicles worldwide due to afire risk, including models of the Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Alfa Romeo and Jeep brands. Over 50,000 of these vehicles are located in Germany. In France, the recall affects 212,000 vehicles produced between 2023 and 2026, more than half of which are Peugeots. This was announced by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (Kba).
Stellantis explains that it is 'a potential problem related to the friction between the petrol particulate filter tube and the belt starter generator.
Some Peugeot, Citroën, Ds Automobiles, Opel/Vauxhall, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Jeep and Fiat vehicles produced between 2023 and 2026 - he points out - may have been assembled with insufficient clearance between the petrol filter tube and the protective cap of the 48-volt belt-driven starter generator pole.
Among the recalled cars are 295,000 Peugeot 208 and 2008, 126,000 Citroën C3, C4 and C3 Aircross, 124,000 Fiat Grande Panda, 44,000 Alfa Romeo Junior and 88,000 Jeep Avenger.
In damp conditions, there is a possibility that this insufficient play and possible contact between these components could cause water to seep in, generating an electrical arc that could trigger a thermal event, such as overheating. In the worst case, this could lead to a potential fire risk in the engine compartment. Stellantsi decided to take action after 36 incidents involving the production defect, of which there were 12 cases of a fire start.
