Stock exchange 2025: 21 new admissions on Egm, listings fall to 411. Unicredit the most traded

Piazza Affari is preparing to close a record 2025. According to stock exchange data updated on 29 December, in fact, the Ftse Mib recorded an increase of 30% over the 12 months, "the greatest positive change since the year 2000". In 2024, the index had gained 12.6%. The Ftse All Share, in turn, gained 30%, while the Ftse Italia Growth index rose 8%. The Piazza Affari rally in 2025 increased the value of listed companies to 47.2% of GDP from 38% last year. According to data updated on 29 December, in fact, the total capitalisation of listed companies stands at EUR 1,042 billion, up about 28.5% from EUR 811 billion in 2024.

In 2025, there were 21 admissions to Piazza Affari, all on the Euronext Growth Milan market (one on the professional segment), which raised EUR 124 million in IPOs. This is down from 2024, when there were 22 admissions with 206 million raised. According to data from Borsa Italiana, the total number of listed companies is 411, compared to 421 last year. In detail, 199 are on the main market (of which 62 on the Star segment) and 212 on Egm. In 2025, there were also 13 IPOs with a countervalue of approximately EUR 1.5 billion. There were 23 IPOs with a countervalue of approximately 2.2 billion.

UniCredit confirmed its position as the most traded share on the Italian Stock Exchange in terms of both contracts and value in 2025. This is what emerges from Borsa Italiana data updated on 29 December. In detail, more than 5 million contracts were stipulated on the share in Piazza Gae Aulenti (figure in line with 2024) for a total of more than EUR 91 billion (it was 78 last year). Overall, share trading on the stock exchange rose by 31.1% compared to 2024, with a daily average of EUR 3.5 billion on over 370 thousand contracts (+22.8%). The average daily value is the highest since the financial crisis of 2007/2008. In total, therefore, more than 93 million contracts were traded in 2025 and the countervalue exceeded EUR 868 billion. The daily high for contracts, which was also the all-time high, was reached on 7 April 2025 with over 1.4 million contracts traded. By counter-value, 9 billion euro was exceeded on 4 April 2025.
