The first steps towards a 'constructive confrontation' with the Court of Auditors have been taken. The government, after a 'careful examination' of the motivations published by the accounting magistrates on the stop to the Ponte sullo Stretto bridge, has gathered at Palazzo Chigi
In particular, it was a technical meeting with the presence of the Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Alfredo Mantovano, and technicians from the ministries involved, i.e. Mef, European Affairs, MIT and Mase.
Among the points of the Court of Auditors' rejection of the Cipess resolution, in fact, is also the environmental issue. Namely, the violation of the Habitats Directive. This is in addition to the breach of European procurement rules, but also to the exclusion of the Transport Regulatory Authority and other aspects that are limping along in the project reactivation procedure.
According to Palazzo Chigi, however, these are 'profiles with a wide margin of clarification before the Court itself, in a discussion that is intended to be constructive and aimed at guaranteeing Italy a strategic infrastructure that has been awaited for decades'.
We will also have to wait for the reasons for the more recent stop, on 17 November, the one on the concession between the ministry and the Stretto di Messina. The company's CEO, Pietro Cucci, also attended the summit at Palazzo Chigi to understand the next technical steps to be taken.
