Strikes, it will be a hiccup weekend for transport
From 9 p.m. on Friday 9 to 9 p.m. on Saturday 10 January a strike is planned on the railways
The first transport strikes of 2026 are starting. They started on Thursday 8 January with the stoppage of buses, trams, trains and metro at local, provincial and regional level proclaimed by various trade unions. And until Sunday there will be further protests putting services in rail and air transport at risk.
Thursday 8 January to protest for four hours were the staff of the company Tua production units of the provinces of Pescara and Chieti, the workers of the Ferro division and the travelling workers of the Vesuvius lines of the company Eav of Naples (for 24 hours), the employees of the company Sasa of Bolzano, of the company Tua of Teramo and of the Abruzzo region, the employees of the local public transport companies of Abruzzo and the company Tua, production unit of Lanciano (Chieti). The crews of Trenitalia Doic (Direzione Operativa Interscambi Commerciali - Interchange Operations Directorate) in Genoa Piazza Principe will stop for eight hours.
Friday 9 January
It will be the turn of a strike in Sardinia for the whole day, also in local transport, while the staff of Swissport Italia at the Milan Linate airport as well as the airport handling staff at Linate and Malpensa airports will stop for 24 hours. The hostesses of easyjet crossed their arms for 24 hours and those of Vueling for 8 hours.
From 9 p.m. on Friday 9 to 9 p.m. on Saturday 10 January there will be a strike on the railways due to an abstention proclaimed by a number of autonomous trade unions. The effects, in terms of cancellations and delays, the company announced, "may occur even earlier and extend beyond the end time of the union agitation. For regional transport, essential services are guaranteed from 6am to 9am and from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 10 January'. Trenitalia, 'considering the possible repercussions on the service, invites passengers to inform themselves before going to the station'.
