Strengthening the supply of university residences by involving public and private investors through innovative development models. With this objective in mind, the Roadshow to support student housing made a stop today in Bologna, a university city of excellence and this week also the venue for the G7 ministerial meeting on "Science and Technology". This was the fourth appointment of the initiative promoted by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti in cooperation with the Ministry of Universities and Research to illustrate with dedicated meetings in the area the opportunities introduced by the 1.2 billion euro call for proposals, managed by the Mur with the support of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti to create 60 thousand student housing places in Italy by 2026 as set out in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The stage

The Bologna leg of the Roadshow 'Student Housing and Pnrr resources: instructions for use' was attended by the head of the Ministry for Universities and Research, Alessio Pontillo, the extraordinary commissioner for university housing, Manuela Manenti, and for Cassa Depositi e Prestiti the head of public administration, Esedra Chiacchella, as speakers. The meeting was also attended by representatives from local institutions, the academic world, right-to-study bodies, associations and the business sector.

The announcement

The Mur call for proposals is open to both public and private residence managers interested in building student halls of residence. A financial contribution of approximately EUR 20,000 is envisaged for each bed made available to students, against a rate applied to the new residences that is at least 15% lower than average market values. One third of the new accommodation at further reduced rates will be reserved for those from low-income families. The web portal created by Cdp is available for applications: through the digitised application it will be possible to use an innovative online simulator to calculate the amount of the property's rent in advance. After the events in Rome, Milan, Palermo and Bologna, the initiative will continue in other major cities in the country selected on the basis of student accommodation needs, i.e. where the distance between the number of beds actually available and the target identified to ensure adequate provision is greatest.

Next Appointments

The next stages of the Roadshow will be held in Padua on 18 July, in Ancona on the 23rd, and in Trento on the 29th. "This is the first time that a series of events has been organised throughout the country to promote a Pnrr measure, with a Roadshow born out of the collaboration between Casse Depositi e Prestiti and the Ministry of Universities and Research, This in the conviction that the development of university housing is an essential factor for strengthening the education system and for the growth of human capital, especially in a city like Bologna and in a region like Emilia-Romagna, which are particularly attractive to students and have many off-site enrolments,' said Cdp's Pa manager, Esedra Chiacchella. "A commitment to university housing that in the last two years has led Cdp to mobilise more than EUR 1 billion in the sector that we believe is central to the country's social and economic development".
