Subaru plans to launch three new electric models for Europe during 2026. The Japanese brand's target market is the United States, where it sells around 700,000 cars per year. In Europe, the other strategic area, the Japanese register about 30,000 units per year. Given, however, that the US market already accounts for 75 per cent of volumes, and in China, domestic manufacturers are in the majority, the decision to remain in Europe is the only challenge capable of guaranteeing Subaru a presence in global markets in the future. In order to focus on Europe, it was necessary to expand the range of electric models.
Three electrics only for Europe
.If Subaru's goal is to increase global sales from about 976,000 last year to about 1.2 million by 2030, it was necessary to sell more electrics, which should, in fact, account for about half of the estimated global sales. Hence the decision to focus on three EV-powered models, the Solterra, recently revised in performance and range, the new e-Outback, which in other markets is called the Trailseeker, and finally, the latest arrival, the Uncharted, based on the Toyota C-HR. All three electrics will be marketed over the coming year at prices to be determined.
The new EV models made on the same platform
.The three models are based on the same platform, the e-Subaru Global Platform, developed in collaboration with Toyota and featuring larger batteries than the current ones, a vocation also for off-road use thanks to interventions on the suspension and set-up. It is no coincidence that the new all-wheel drive management system, one of the pluses of all Subaru cars, distributes torque between the two axles much more quickly, with the result of ensuring greater grip in bends and more grip on snow and ice. The new Uncharted, which is set to become the flagship model of the EV offering, is based on the Toyota C-HR.
Uncharted, the Subaru cousin of the Toyota C-HR.
Based on Toyota's recently restyled C-HR sports crossover, the Uncharted differs from the Toyota version in its headlamp clusters and front and rear bumpers that provide a more aggressive look than the original. The Uncharted is 4.52 metres long, 17 less than the Solterra, with a wheelbase of 2.75 metres, plus a boot capacity of 416 litres. On board is the same 14-inch screen as the C-HR: only the steering wheel is Subaru. In the imposing central tunnel, in addition to the gear selector and driving mode selector, there are chargers for two smartphones.
On the entire range of Subaru's new electric flagship in Europe, the All-Weather package will be offered as standard, which includes 18-inch wheels, heated seats, electrically operated tailgate and even ambient lights. The top-of-the-range version will be badged the GT and will come standard with a panoramic roof, 20-inch wheels as well as a Harman Kardom sound system. The Uncharted will also be offered in two variants: front-wheel drive with a 224 hp engine or in the dual-motor variant with all-wheel drive and an impressive 343 hp. Both variants use a 74.7 kWh battery for a range of up to 480 km.
