Summer 2025 promises to be a season marked by a strong demand for workers. According to the new report by Assolavoro Datalab, between May and September, the demand for seasonal work in the main production sectors will reach 600,000, concentrated particularly in tourist accommodation, catering, trade and agro-industry services.

Employment agencies will offer around 50,000 temporary contracts related to these profiles, while the total number of temporary opportunities (including non-seasonal ones) will be close to 400,000.

Hospitality, catering and large-scale retail trade: here are the most in-demand profiles

According to the analyses conducted by Assolavoro Datalab on the main job offer and search platforms, the most sought-after professions concern the seaside tourism, entertainment and reception sectors: sports entertainers, baby club and disabled assistants, receptionists, lifeguards, pool stewards.

There is also a large demand in the catering sector, where chefs, kitchen commis, floor waiters, bartenders and bar counter workers are being sought. The commercial component is represented by stand assistants, seasonal shop assistants, cashiers and supermarket department workers.

To complete the picture, production activities related to the seasonality of agribusiness, such as farm workers and packaging workers. There are also many opportunities for porters, dishwashers, cleaners, handymen and deliverymen.

All this in the face of a decline in the attractiveness of job offers in this sector. Especially in the on-trade segment. In the first quarter of 2025, this employment segment recorded only 977 applications compared to 1479 in the same period of 2024.

This is a sign of the low attractiveness of a sector that, in the face of the season's many opportunities, is increasingly perceived as poorly paid and precarious.

Northeast leads the demand geography

.

Tourism-oriented areas, such as the North-East, dominate the territorial distribution of demand. Alone, in fact, it absorbs over 31% of the expected seasonal contracts. This is followed by the South with 21.9%, the Centre with 17.5%, the North-West with 16.1% and finally the Islands with 13.1%.

A temporary high-turnover market

.

As is in the nature of the seasonal nature of these jobs, they are mainly fixed-term contracts, as evidenced by the massive use of temporary contracts. However, the problem of coverage remains: the growing demand for stability on the part of workers makes it increasingly difficult to meet staffing needs, leaving the sector short of professionals every summer.
